Dr. Jonathan Calure is the President and Surgical Director of Maryland Vein Professionals. Celebrating 10 years of service in 2015, MVP offers patients several locations across the state, including a Joint Commission Accredited Ambulatory Surgical Center that opened in 2014 in Columbia. As one of the first physicians in the Baltimore-Washington-Annapolis area to perform the Venous Closure® procedure, Dr. Calure is now a national leader in the technique with an experience of more than 21,000 treatments. Dr. Calure holds two certifications by the American Board of Medical Specialties; he is Board Certified in General Surgery and he is Board Certified in Thoracic-Cardiovascular Surgery. Dr. Calure is trained in both classic open surgical technique, and is broadly trained in minimally invasive, video assisted and catheter based techniques. He has performed over 2,000 major surgical cases including open heart surgeries, vascular and general surgeries.

Dr. Calure's practice is considered a National Center of Excellence for the techniques of Vein Care, and many physicians have traveled both from within the USA and internationally to learn from Dr. Calure and MVP. The University of Maryland's Program for Medical Sonography has selected Maryland Vein Professionals as the site for its students to learn the proper techniques of Venous Ultrasound. The Vascular Lab is one of the few in the region to hold accreditation by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories, (ICAVL) for Venous Ultrasound.

A lifelong resident of Maryland, Dr. Calure has had the distinction of practicing Cardiac Surgery in the hospital of his birth, The Washington Adventist Hospital. Dr. Calure completed his undergraduate degree in Aerospace Engineering as a Chancellor's Scholar at The University of Maryland. While working part time as an engineer at The NASA Goddard Spaceflight Center, he earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Dr. Calure completed his General Surgery Residency as well as his Cardiac Surgery Fellowship at the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore.

Dr. Calure is a member of The American College of Phlebology, The International Society of Endovascular Specialists, and The Society of Thoracic Surgeons. Prior to opening his own Surgical Center, Dr. Calure held privileges at The Washington Adventist Hospital, Holy Cross, Suburban, George Washington University Hospitals, and The Washington Hospital Center. In his spare time, Dr. Calure enjoys the outdoors, music, and fitness training. He is an avid fan of the Orioles, Ravens, and Redskins, and he is active in his Church. He resides in Clarksville with his wife and three children.

 

Dr. James Laredo serves as the Director of the Maryland Vein Professionals Vascular Lab. He is board certified in both Surgery and Vascular Surgery. Dr. Laredo is one of only a few physicians in all of Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia, to be credentialed as both a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) and Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI) by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).

Dr. Laredo earned both his PhD in Physiology and MD degree at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He completed his general surgery training in Boston at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School and vascular surgery fellowship at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago. Dr. Laredo is a member of numerous medical and surgical societies including the Society for Vascular Surgery, the American Venous Forum, the American College of Phlebology and the American College of Surgeons.

In addition to his interest in arterial disease, Dr. Laredo also specializes in venous diseases and was one of the first physicians in the Washington DC and Northern Virginia area to perform the endovenous ablation procedure to treat patients with varicose veins and venous insufficiency.

 

Dr. Lingelbach joined Maryland Vein Professionals in 2009. She has a range of expertise in all aspects of Vascular Surgery including classic open technique and minimally invasive procedures. Dr. Lingelbach has been serving the Washington D.C. region since 2002 as a Private Practice Vascular Surgeon based at the Washington Adventist Hospital.

After completing medical school at Washington University in St. Louis, she went on to complete General Surgery Residency at Harvard's Massachusetts General Hospital. She went on to complete her specialty training in Vascular Surgery, also at Harvard. Dr. Lingelbach has performed over 2000 major open vascular surgeries in addition to a broad array of minimally invasive catheter based and ultrasound guided procedure expertise. Dr. Lingelbach holds Board Certification both in General Surgery and Vascular Surgery. She lives in Rockville with her husband and son.

Dr. Hupp has practiced vascular surgery in the Annapolis area since 2002. He was the first surgeon in the Annapolis area to perform endovenous ablations starting in 2005 and he has performed thousands of these procedures since. He was honored by “What’s Up Annapolis Magazine” being the only ‘Top Doc’ for Varicose Veins in Anne Arundel County for 2015-2016. He joined Maryland Vein Professionals in 2016.

Dr. Hupp attended Stanford University and received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School in Boston. He completed his General Surgery Residency and Vascular Surgery Fellowship at Harvard’s Massachusetts General Hospital. After his surgical training, he served as Chief of the West Surgical Service at the Massachusetts General Hospital.

In over 25 years of private practice, Dr. Hupp has performed thousands of open, minimally invasive, catheter based and ultrasound guided vascular procedures. He is Board Certified in Vascular Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

He lives in Arnold with his wife and 4 children. He has a passion for sailing and boating and spends much of his spare time restoring and rebuilding 'older' boats.

 

Dr. Peter Liao is a board certified General Surgeon who has a special expertise minimally invasive endoscopic and general surgery. Dr. Liao obtained his medical degree from the Jefferson Medical College as part of the Penn State/Jefferson combined 6 year BS, MD program. During his time at Jefferson, Dr. Liao also completed a PhD in Pharmacology. In 1994 he started Residency in General Surgery at University of Maryland. He continued at University of Maryland with a Fellowship in Surgical Endoscopy and Advanced Laparoscopy. In 2001 he returned as faculty at the University of Maryland teaching residents General Surgery, Flexible Endoscopy and Advanced Laparoscopy

Dr. Liao left UMMS to teach at one of the oldest residency programs in Baltimore, Union Memorial Hospital, where he was Director of the Minimally Invasive Bariatric program, an Instructor in General Surgery and a preceptor to rotating medical students. He has been practicing General and Bariatric Surgery at GBMC till joining Dr. Calure. Dr. Liao lives in Lutherville with his wife, two sons, four dogs, two cats, a bunny, a turtle and too numerous to count tree frogs. He is an avid reader, has an interest in history, is a technology enthusiast, as well as, having a personal and professional interest in health, wellness, and functional medicine.

 

Dr. Whittaker graduated from the US Naval Academy with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and completed medical school at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He subsequently obtained his General Surgery residency at Harvard’s Massachusetts General Hospital. After a tour as the Battle Group Surgeon during Operation Iraqi Freedom, he returned to complete his Vascular Fellowship at Dartmouth in New Hampshire.

He is currently a Board Certified General and Vascular Surgeon with a full breadth of experience in traditional open surgeries and advanced minimally invasive technologies. He has published numerous manuscripts in the field of Vascular Surgery and has authored and co-authored several textbook chapters related to Vascular Disease and treatments. He has a particular interest in the advancement of venous disease treatments and is continuously evaluating new and innovative technologies to improve patient care.

Dr. Whittaker lives in Potomac with his wife and two sons. He is an avid runner, triathlete and guitar player.
