James M. Brown. M.D.

Dr. Brown is a renowned Cardiothoracic Surgeon who has served the people of Maryland for the past decade at the University of Maryland Medical System. As a world class Heart Surgeon and expert in cutting edge, minimally invasive surgical treatment of Cardiovascular and Aortic Valvular Diseases, Dr. Brown adds an enormous experience to the talented staff at Maryland Vein Professionals. A two time NCAA class scholar athlete at Trinity College, Dr. Brown went on to complete Cardiovascular Surgical training at the University Colorado in 1994. After serving on CV Surgical faculty at the University of Colorado, Dr. Brown was recruited to the University of Maryland in 1999 where he worked for the past 11 years. Among his many accolades, publications and awards, he was the recipient of the Shock Trauma Hero Award in 2005.

Dr. Brown holds certificates from both the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. He has performed over 3 thousand open heart operations including coronary artery bypass, valve repair and replacement, heart and lung transplants, and minimally invasive cardiothoracic operations. Dr. Brown has published 84 papers in peer reviewed scientific journals, given 20 presentations at national meetings, and written 15 book chapters. Dr. Brown's results from the procedures over the last 15 years have been exemplary exceeding average expectations, this assertion based on national cardiac surgery outcome data. Dr. Brown has chaired multiple committees related to quality patient outcomes, at the group, practice, department, and hospital levels. He has remained dedicated to improving health care quality daily.

Dr. Brown has a personal passion for health, wellness, sports, and nutrition. He believes that every healthcare episode both relates to the person as a whole and should be viewed as an opportunity to sharpen one's focus and commit to healthy living habits. An avid equestrian, Dr. Brown spent summers during college and medical school training horses on a ranch in Montana. He carries with him lessons from this experience, the most important of which is the sense of fellowship that should exist among all beings.

Joseph McClain, M.D.

Dr. Joseph McClain is a Cardiac, Endovascular, and Thoracic Surgeon. Dr. McClain received his medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where he graduated with distinction. He completed his General Surgery Internship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and his General Surgery residency and Cardiovascular training at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. After he completed his Cardiovascular training Dr. McClain was assigned to Walter Reed Army Medical Center with special assignment to the Virginia Commonwealth University at The Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, VA.

Dr. McClain spent nearly a year in Baghdad, Iraq serving as lead surgeon inside the Green Zone (international zone) in 2005 and 2006. After returning from Iraq, Dr. McClain finished his active duty military time and accepted a job as director of Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute before returning home to Norfolk, NE. with his wife and three children. From 2009-2011 Dr. McClain served as Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Director of Minimally Invasive Vein Care at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk, Nebraska.

Dr. McClain is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the American Medical Association and is a lifetime member of The Association of Military Surgeons of the United States.

Jonathan Calure, M.D.

Dr. Jonathan Calure is the President and Surgical Director of Maryland Vein Professionals. Founded in 2006, Maryland Vein Professionals now offers six locations across the state. Dr. Calure was one of the first physicians in the Baltimore-Washington-Annapolis area to perform the VNUS Closure® procedure. Dr. Calure is now a national leader in Endovenous Radiofrequency Ablation, (a.k.a. The Venefit® or VNUS Closure Procedure) with an experience of more than 11,000 cases as of March 2012. Dr. Calure holds two certifications by the American Board of Medical Specialties; he is Board Certified in General Surgery and he is Board Certified in Thoracic-Cardiovascular Surgery. Dr. Calure is trained in both classic open surgical technique, and is broadly trained in minimally invasive, video assisted and catheter based techniques. He has performed over 2,000 major surgical cases including open heart surgeries, vascular and general surgeries.

Dr. Calure's practice, Maryland Vein Professionals, is a National Center of Excellence for state of the art techniques of Vein Care, and is one of the busiest practices devoted to minimally invasive vein care in the United States. Many physicians have traveled both from within the USA and internationally to learn from Dr. Calure. The University of Maryland Program for Medical Sonography has selected Maryland Vein Professionals as its site for its students to learn the proper techniques of Venous Ultrasound. The Vascular Lab is one of the few in the region to hold accreditation by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories, (ICAVL) for Venous Ultrasound.

A lifelong resident of Maryland, Dr. Calure has had the distinction of practicing Cardiac Surgery in the hospital of his birth, The Washington Adventist Hospital. Dr. Calure completed his undergraduate degree in Aerospace Engineering as a Chancellor's Scholar at The University of Maryland. While working part time as an engineer at The NASA Goddard Spaceflight Center, he earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Dr. Calure completed his General Surgery Residency as well as his Cardiac Surgery Fellowship at the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore.

Dr. Calure is a member of The American College of Phlebology, The International Society of Endovascular Specialists, and The Society of Thoracic Surgeons. He is currently on Staff at Howard County General Hospital and The Baltimore Washington Medical Center. Prior to opening his own Surgical Center, Dr. Calure held privileges at The Washington Adventist Hospital, Holy Cross, Suburban, George Washington University Hospitals, and The Washington Hospital Center. In his spare time, Dr. Calure enjoys the outdoors, music, and fitness training. He is an avid fan of the Orioles, Ravens, and Redskins, and he is active in his Church. He resides in Clarksville with his wife and three children.

Jane Lingelbach, M.D.

Dr. Lingelbach joined Maryland Vein Professionals in 2009. She has a range of expertise in all aspects of Vascular Surgery including classic open technique and minimally invasive procedures. Dr. Lingelbach has been serving the Washington D.C. region since 2002 as a Private Practice Vascular Surgeon based at the Washington Adventist Hospital.

After completing medical school at Washington University in St. Louis, she went on to complete General Surgery Residency at Harvard's Massachusetts General Hospital. She went on to complete her specialty training in Vascular Surgery, also at Harvard. Dr. Lingelbach has performed over 2000 major open vascular surgeries in addition to a broad array of minimally invasive catheter based and ultrasound guided procedure expertise. Dr. Lingelbach holds Board Certification both in General Surgery and Vascular Surgery. She lives in Rockville with her husband and son.
